The construction of this 50,000 SF building addition and 40,000 SF renovation of the existing facility was awarded to Ferguson on January 30, 2006. The project was finished May 15, 2007 - three months ahead of schedule. The new entrance features a 26-ft. high glass curtain that frames an open atrium. The 2400 SF grand foyer houses OSU trophies for its recent national championship and Big Ten titles and its seven Heisman trophies.
The work included new coaches offices, meeting rooms, a new weight room, renovated locker room, state-of-the-art medical and training rooms, an expansive second-story player's lounge and nearby racquet ball court and half-court basketball gym.
We wanted it to be a comfortable place...a safe haven where our players know they are going to work hard and they know they are going to train, but they can also kick back and relax and enjoy one another. In some ways this is our players home," said Jim Tressel, Football Head Coach.
The new Woody Hayes Athletic Center has become the gold standard for facilities of its type throughout the country. Appropriately, and not by accident, the rich traditions and deep rooted history of The Ohio State football program is witnessed at every turn.
Coach Tressel hopes this impresses players and recruits alike. "It's a reminder," Tressel said, that with tradition comes responsibility."
